Rovaniemi most instagrammable activities

Rovaniemi is one of the most popular places in Europe to visit during Christmas and winter. Located at the Arctic Circle, it is the official hometown of Santa Claus, the capital of Lapland, and the place where you can experience both the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun.

No matter where you point your camera in Rovaniemi, you will undoubtedly capture something remarkable. But what is the ultimate checklist for a short stay that will give you both unforgettable memories and beautiful photos? Let’s see:

5. Meet the Reindeers

You don’t need to visit a Reindeer farm to pet and feed the Reindeers. The cheapest way to interact with one and go on a short sleigh ride is at the Santa Claus village.

4. Stay in a remote glass Igloo

You will have the chance to sleep under the stars and watch the Northern Lights from a remote glass Igloo. We personally loved the glass apartments provided by the Glass Resort and located at the Arctic Circle. On top of that, each apartment features a private sauna and a private jacuzzi.

3. Book a sled safari with the Huskies

We had the best time riding through the woods into the Ounasjoki river. The Huskies are beyond adorable; you will have so much fun and get the most beautiful photos.

2. Visit Santa and cross the Arctic Circle

You can meet Santa Claus and cross the Arctic Circle every day at the Santa Claus Village. (it’s also the only place on earth where you can cross the Arctic Circle underground).

The Arctic Circle (66°33′45.9) marks the southernmost latitude where the sun can stay continuously below or above the horizon for 24 hours – these phenomena are known as the Midnight Sun in the summer and the Polar Night in the winter.

If you want to meet Santa, head to Santa Claus Office. After meeting the Elfs and crossing the Arctic underground, you’ll be able to shake his hand.

1. Hunt the Northern Lights

This was by far the most exciting activity for me; however, you need to be very lucky to see the Aurora, especially during a short stay.
