Visiting the Dolomites during the shoulder season is an amazing idea if you want to disconnect and relax, but there are certain things you should take into consideration before booking your stay.
Let me begin by saying that I can’t remember the time I had a proper vacation. Not because I don’t travel, but because my love for adventure, creating and exploring does not allow me to just sit in a hotel room… but not this time. I think I had the most uneventful and relaxing vacation ever! I needed that quiet time so much.
So this is what you should expect if you plan to visit the Dolomites off-season:
Getting there – Alleghe and Caprile
I’m not going to lie. Getting here took forever. We arrived at 11.30 at the Treviso airport. We took the bus to the Treviso station and from there a train to Belluno.
There is a direct bus to Caprile but we were not that lucky. We literally had to switch between 3 different busses and it took us almost 6 hours to arrive at our destination. The views are nothing but worth it.
If you want to go off season, best advice is to rent a car. You can definitely move around without a car but it’s going to be time consuming.
Also, the cable car was not working and we were only left with the option of taking long walks, which was not a bad idea at all. The villages are so cute, picturesque, and beyond instagrammable.
The weather is so unpredictable, especially during the shoulder season, so keep in mind you may not be able to hike the mountains. We knew that might be the case, so we booked a room with access to spa – which was the best decision considering the weather, that was not on our side at all this time.
Another thing to take into consideration, is that some of the hotels and restaurants are closed, so your options might be limited.
However, since there are not that many tourists, you can enjoy the authentic wilderness of the place.
Some exciting news
I was so happy I had a little bit more time than usual to work on my blog. My travels are usually hectic, running from one place to another to get the best shots. It’s not always easy to be on the go and not everyone I travel with understands. But I am more than lucky to have a couple of people I can always rely on, I can finally say I have found my tribe. More than that, I have some exciting news! Things are about to change in here! I was accepted in the Open World Traveler program as a @momondo ambassador. Officially, I’m a new momondo traveler.
